The best resistance is not automatically the heaviest resistance. It is the level and type of load that lets you train the intended movement with control, repeat it consistently, and create a clear path toward progression. Build your setup around the work you need to perform—not around equipment for equipment's sake.

A dumbbell applies a relatively consistent external load through a movement. A resistance band changes tension as it stretches.
